The Pickwick story is based upon Charles Dickens "Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club" and was originally adapted for the West End stage in 1963 by Leslie Bricusse and Cyril Ornadel. At this time it rivalled other shows including "Oliver!" and "Lock Up Your Daughters". The star of the original show was Sir Harry Secombe who sang the well known song "If I Ruled The World".
BOS's version stars Stuart Bull in the lead part as Pickwick and tells the story of Pickwick's adventures of the misunderstanding over the love of Mrs Bardell (played by Lesley Smith) and his servant Sam Weller (played by Richard Laight).
The show is directed by Tony Smith who is assisted by a newcomer to the Society Natalie Stafford who has been involved in the choreography as well and Lynne Baker who is our Musical Director.
The show is full of lively and colourful East End of London songs, mock pistol fights, ballroom scene and many more tuneful episodes on the way through Pickwick's life and loves.
